WHAT DOES A FUNERAL COST

The total cost of a funeral service is dependent upon the choices made, and SPECK FUNERAL HOME believes that those choices should be freely made
with a wide range of options.  Knowledge about funeral service options enable a family to make choices that will provide them with the most rewarding funeral service possible.

WHAT IS PRE ARRANGEMENT Pre arrangement is the planning of funeral services before the need arises, often years before death occurs.  A funeral director records your preferences for the type of service desired, music, casket selection, and other information.

WHY PREARRANGE People prearrange funerals for many reasons.  Some have definite preferences concerning the funeral service or merchandise and want their families to be informed and involved in the decisions.  Others want to save their survivors from having to make decisions at a difficult and confusing time.  By prearranging and prepaying it releases your family of a financial burden.

Some individuals who have been faced with making selections for loved ones may wish to spare others from the indecision, guessing, emotion, or anxiety they experienced.  Still, others may prearrange because no one else is capable of making responsible decisions.  In any case, funeral prearrangement can alleviate many concerns and is often viewed as an
element of estate planning.

EMBALMING   Contrary to popular belief, there is not a state or province in the United
States or Canada in which embalming is an absolute legal requirement.  It may be required if a public health hazard is present or if remains are to be
transported across a considerable distance, but it is NOT required in most
cases when burial is to be in the same vicinity.

Although not required in most instances, most people prefer embalming for
two basic reasons.

First of all, embalming makes it possible to delay disposition for a period of time...so that friends and relatives may be notified and attend the visitation and services. Also embalming and the modern science of cosmetology and restorative art make possible a comforting final appearance.

CREMATION   Cremation is the process used to prepare the human body for final
disposition.  Through the use of intense heat and direct flames, the body is
reduced to bone fragments.  Cremation is a very personal choice.  You must determine what form of preparation for final disposition you desire.

Whether you choose earth burial, entombment or cremation for yourself or
others, it is wise to consider the emotional needs of the survivors.  If cremation is your choice, include your family and loved ones in your decisions.  You may avoid added stress during a very emotional time for your survivors.

Cremation is not intended to replace the elements of the traditional funeral,
which may include any or all of the following: a service or ceremony at a church, funeral home or chapel, lodge, or other location; a visitation, viewing or wake; a graveside service.  It is simply an alternative to earth burial or entombment of the body of the deceased.
